broken....

For those of you who don't already know, I did indeed break my elbow. Sadly, I've never been too coordinated and Saturday morning, I did a really awesome front flip off my bike that sadly resulted in an Emergency Room trip later that evening.

Now, we can all agree that broken bones are painful and no fun, but why was it necessary for me to lose my voice, as well? I just spent my past 3 hours on the phone with the insurance company, trying to croak out the appropriate information so they would help me out. Meanwhile, Hurricane Jean is dumping all over Chapel Hill and I am trying to hold my cell phone and my umbrella in my one good hand.

This has just not been my day.

I will survive, however. I have an appointment with an orthopedist in an hour and the insurance is (finally, cross your fingers) worked out. Apparently I'm only supposed to break bones in Pennsylvania, NOT in North Carolina. Now I just have to write that religion paper and everything will be peachy....!

back on the blog

So it's Monday and I'm back at work. Nothing too new to report except that I procrastinated farrrr too much this weekend and now I'm regretting it. On Friday night, I supervised a lock-in for middle schoolers at MY church, and this experience served to remind me that you could never everrrr give me enough money to make me go back to middle school. Needless to say, the sleepless Friday night made Saturday very lazy. On Sunday I went for a bike ride, did some reading, then had a potlock with my youth group. After the potluck, I went to an Episcopalian service with a friend. It was great, very quiet and peaceful and great music. It's hard to find that kind of silence on campus.

I think this will be a pretty low-key week coming up. I have a paper due at the end of the week but I'm aiming to get it done early so my friend can proofread it for me.

Not a whole lot is happening in this life of mine, it's just pretty routine stuff.

Is Eric back from India? When does he get home??

another day, another blog

Getting back into the groove! This weekend was excellent - the Battle of the Bands (the last Week of Welcome event) was on Friday, and I pulled cotton candy ALL night - kinda fun, actually. On Saturday, we had our first parrrrrty at the apartment ( a cake party, not a keg party - it was Cameron's birthday) and then last night I went to see Napoleon Dynamite again with my youth group. Awesome.

Now that Week of Welcome is over, I can start getting myself together! I had class and then work today, then I worked out and just had a relaxing evening. Tomorrow I have one cancelled class, then 2 classes...after THAT, I'm meeting with my independant study professor for the first time. I'm pretty excited/nervous.

Check out the pictures! Good times are being haved by all.

not to be outdone

Well, Natalie has certainly showed me up with her blogging ability. However, I will not be outdone. While I did not have the exciting weekend that she did (farrrrrrrrrrr from it, as my major companions were textbooks. That's right, folks, I spent my holiday weekend studying. Blah.) I can still update on the happenings in my life. As I mentioned, the weekend was rather boring. I saw a few movies, and here are my opinions:
1. Mystic River. While this movie was up for many Oscars and I have heard a lot of great things about it, I struggle with the violence and the pointless sadness. The actors were great, but what did I get out of it? A few lessons - don't be a pedophile, don't murder people, don't go to jail, don't play with guns...were these really things I didn't already know? Not so much.
2. Napoleon Dynamite. Now THIS is a quality film. While many people would not agree, I am pretty sure this is the funniest movie I have seen all year. It is, without a doubt, an odd brand of humor, but I possess an odd sense of humor so it worked out. I literally did not stop laughing for the entire first 45 minutes of the movie, and when I did stop laughing, it was for about 5 seconds then started up again. Another notable thing about this movie is the fact that the main character looks EXACTLY like my older brother. Check this out:

And some of his mannerisms are similar, too. What excitement! Can't wait to see this one again. (Natalie, I reiterate - you MUSTTTTTTT see this movie. MUST.)

Natalie and I spoke on the phone today (practically unheard of, we generally go fo the ignore tactic) but as always, it was good to hear her voice. Hurricane Frances is currently blowing her way through Chapel Hill which makes pedestrian travel interesting (which is my major mode of transportation).

I am at work now, and will be here for another hour and a half. I think I will go start some reading or something else productive...or maybe not.

WONDERFUL DAY

THIS has been the BEST DAY EVER. It started off kinda blah - I know I had a long day ahead of me, which always makes me move a little slower in the morning. I got up and went to work out, then headed to campus to run a MILLION errands before my first class. I had class alllll afternoon, then went to talk to my professor after my last class. He helped me write my Mary Magdalene paper last semester, and I have been trying to get him to read it and give me some feedback. Well, I had forgotten that over the summer I asked him about independant study - how to do it, what to do - and today, after class, he apologized for failing to get back to me and that we could definitely do an independant study of the Gospel of Mary and other gnostic stuff. HOW COOL IS THAT!??! He told me that for the current class I'm taking (Early Varieties of Christianity), he had put Mary on the syllabus JUST because he saw that I was on the class roster. WHOA. I am so pumped.

So then, I had my UU meeting, which is always great, and then headed off to my Week of Welcome stuff - this event was MY event, and basically no one expected that big of a turn out (especially not me, I expected like 2 people) BUT THERE WERE OVER 150 people!!! I was surprised and thrilled. What a great event!

Things have been crrrazy busy around here this week, and I am about to hit the sack. I have been WORKING for the past 3 hours and it's time to hit the sack, but I couldn't sleep without spreading the wonderful news to my readers. Hope this satisfies the blogging need.
